Role: Sr. Tax Prepare

Location: Chicago, IL

Pay: $45 - $60 / hour

What You'll Do

As a Senior Tax Preparer, you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns, serving as a point of contact for clients, and providing guidance to junior team members. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a high level of accuracy, and hands-on experience in public accounting.

• Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals (1040), partnerships (1065), S-corporations (1120S), C-corporations (1120), and trusts/estates (1041)
• Conduct client interviews and gather necessary documentation to complete tax filings
• Identify and communicate potential tax savings opportunities and planning strategies
• Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations
• Handle correspondence with IRS and state tax authorities as needed
• Mentor and support junior preparers or interns during tax season
• Maintain accurate and organized client records in the firm's tax software
• Stay current with tax law changes and industry trends

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of recent experience in tax preparation within a CPA firm or public accounting environment
• Proficiency with tax software (e.g., Lacerte, ProSeries, UltraTax, Drake, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax codes
• Experience with QuickBooks, Xero or other accounting platforms preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
• CPA, EA, or actively pursuing preferred but not required
