What Success Looks Like In This Job The Adams County Health Department (ACHD) Nursing Division is comprised of Nurse Family Partnership, Nurse Support Program, Harm Reduction, Sexual Health, Immunizations, Child Maltreatment and Fatality Prevention, and Care Coordinator for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The Nursing Division includes clinical support staff, medical assistants, harm reduction specialists, operations support, nurses, advanced practice nurses, and midwives. As a public health professional, your work is to prevent illness, promote well‑being, and safeguard the health of communities. Primary Responsibilities For Success The Sexual Health (Clinical) Public Health Nurse Supervisor (PHN‑Supervisor) manages day‑to‑day operations of the Sexual Health program’s clinical and non‑clinical services, leads the nursing team, supervises direct reports, and serves as a program specialist. Tasks include staff scheduling, clinical appointment coordination, clinical skills training, pharmacy operations in compliance with Colorado State Board of Pharmacy regulations, quality control of laboratory and program services, performance evaluation of staff, program operations oversight, and implementation of program deliverables. The PHN‑Supervisor provides direct patient care at ACHD clinics and during community outreach, maintains expertise on sexual health best practices, and delivers technical guidance to the clinical team and community partners. The role collaborates with program leadership to build community partnerships, remove care barriers, and enhance access for traditionally marginalized populations. Direct Patient Care Works as part of a team to deliver culturally appropriate, client‑centered care to diverse populations. Provides safe, effective, evidence‑based client care and education, including documentation and referrals. Performs direct client assessments, education on safe sex, STI prevention and treatment, pregnancy prevention, and healthy pregnancy strategies. Recommends services at clinic visits, outdoor community clinics, fairs, and outreach events. Operates under standing orders and consults with Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Advisors, pharmacists, and physicians as needed. Maintains specialty practice in nursing and public health, promoting population health through nursing, social, and public health sciences. Collaborates with team members, health department divisions, and county agencies to provide resources and care options. Identifies need for consultation and referral as necessary, and provides appropriate agency‑wide referrals. Serves as liaison or lead within clinic or off‑site community clinic or event. Handles moderate‑scope problems requiring analysis of various factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action. Conducts diagnostic tests, needs‑assessment interviews, medical histories, and vital measurements to coordinate care. Applies agency directives, procedures, and guidelines to resolve a variety of issues. Program Operations Maintains current clinical competence and reflects current nursing practice. Manages staff scheduling for clinical and mobile services; collaborates with Harm Reduction mobile supervisor. Operates clinical appointment scheduling in the electronic medical record and adjusts as needed. Ensures quality control of point‑of‑care testing, specimen collection, venipuncture equipment, training new staff, and record‑keeping. Manages custody, documentation, quantity, and quality of on‑site and off‑site medications per ACHD, State Board of Pharmacy, 340B, and manufacturer policies. Performs monthly medication inventory audits and enforces corrective measures. Monitors monthly medication expiration dates. Audits team cash drawers. Holds regular team meetings and attends professional development opportunities. Supports continuous learning, growth, and collaboration within the team. Provides mentorship and professional support, identifying learning opportunities for staff. Collects and documents data required for program operations and grant deliverables. Delivers research‑based education on harm reduction strategies, STI prevention, testing and treatment, wound care and prevention, safe sex practices, and pregnancy prevention. Documents client visits within the Electronic Health Record, maintaining timely documentation standards. Collaborates with community agencies and service providers through referrals and written and verbal communications. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Provides direct supervision for direct reports. Schedules required training for grant deliverables for clinical and non‑clinical services. Develops and oversees robust staff development for maximum program delivery. Ensures staff compliance with ACHD and program directives, procedures, and guidelines. Maintains knowledge of program principles, techniques, and protocols related to community health nursing in public health programs. Interprets reports and best practices, sharing them with leadership, team, and partners. Implements quality improvement and strategies. Assesses professional services and resources available through ACHD and the community. Collaborates with community groups to develop goals and increase access to public health care programs. Coordinates and integrates program activities with nursing programs, ACHD divisions, allied agencies, service providers, and community groups. Provides consultation, leadership, and management in specialized program areas. Offers technical expertise to ACHD staff on program directives and guidelines. Participates in committees and coalitions related to program activities and responsibilities. Uses data analysis to develop community‑specific solutions for prevention priorities. Participates in policy and legislation via committees and boards related to program activities. Supports community planning, education, and promotion of public health services through outreach, board and committee service, and public education presentations. Additional Duties Assists in orienting and training new employees, students, and volunteers. Participates in quality improvement projects. Knowledge of population health, epidemiology, and disease spread within communities; familiarity with health conditions affecting Adams County. Evening, weekend, and occasional on‑call duties may be required, including work outside normal hours. Healthcare equipment. Learn and become proficient with equipment and software programs required to perform duties effectively and efficiently. Experience 8 years’ related experience in nursing, community outreach, epidemiology, or a closely related field, with 2 years’ experience in leadership (informal or formal). A BSN may substitute for 2 years of required experience, excepting formal and/or informal leadership experience. Education and Training Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited program (National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or American Association of Colleges of Nursing). Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Preferred Education and Experience or Special Qualifications Spanish speaking ability preferred; ACHD provides additional compensation for bilingual language skills. Ability to function at the highest level of licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Professional Qualifications Licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Colorado or a Compact State. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Other Qualifications Flexibility in work hours to accommodate community events, meetings, and outreach activities. Travel within the community and availability for evening, weekend, and on‑call duties. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
