To be considered as a Police Dispatcher Lateral, applicants must be actively employed by another POST-certified agency.
Under supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in the operation of the emergency services systems and various communication devices to receive, route, relay, and dispatch calls for emergency and non-emergency law enforcement, ambulance, fire, and other services.
Dispatcher II --Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the I level, but are expected to function at a higher skill level and exercise independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained as they arise. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II level are normally filled by advancement from the I level requiring one year of experience at the I level, successful performance, budget availability and management recommendation. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the II level.
Dispatcher III --Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the I and II level, but are expected to function at a higher skill level and exercise independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained as they arise. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the III level are normally filled by advancement from the II level requiring six years of experience at the I and II level, successful performance, budget availability and management recommendation. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the III level.
