ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES / CASWELL MEMORIAL STATE PARK

The reporting location for this position is Caswell Memorial State Park in Ripon, CA. This position will work under the supervision of Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory). 

We are looking for a team player to work in some of the most beautiful parks in the State Park System including but not limited to Caswell Memorial State Park, Great Valley Grasslands State Park, George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area, and McConnell State Recreation Area.

The Environmental Scientist will have primary responsibility for administering the Central Valley District's Proposition 64 program for the cleanup, remediation, and restoration of environmental damage in watersheds affected by marijuana cultivation and related activities.

Typical working hours are 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM on full days, but schedule may vary depending on operational need. This position may also be working nights, weekends, and overnight at units within the district, depending on program/project need.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

This position may work up to 1500 hours in any calendar year.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Mostly office working conditions, some fieldwork and overnight travel is required. May be required to perform arduous field work in rugged, steep terrain. Work indoors in climate-controlled buildings, work outdoors in variable weather conditions. Work in hazardous situations (e.g., around fire, chemicals, etc.) Work environment may have exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Typical working hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on full days, but schedules may vary depending on available funding and operational need. This position may also work nights and weekends depending on program/project needs.

Current basic fire fighter certification (FF Type II) or willingness to be certified in Wildland Fire (at minimum receiving a qualification of Firefighter II and Resource Advisor) desired
